Swedish Massage
One of the most common forms of massage used in the United States, "Swedish massage" utilizes five basic strokes all flowing toward the heart. Therapists use a combination of kneading, rolling, vibration, percussive and tapping movements, with the application of oil or lotion to reduce friction on the skin. A sheet covers the disrobed client, with only the area being worked on exposed. The many benefits of Swedish massage may include generalized relaxation, improved circulation, and breaking up adhesions.
Deep Tissue
Based on the principles of Swedish massage, deep tissue techniques are administered to affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. It helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation and reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis, tendonitis, etc.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a therapeutic acupressure technique. Using various pressure and stretching techniques, this Japanese bodywork addresses the same energetic meridian system as acupuncture. By taking an abdominal (Hara) diagnosis, the practitioner is able to address the whole body while treating the symptoms being presented that day. This therapy is profoundly effective in treating a variety of physical and emotional complaints, while bringing relaxation, balance and more awareness to the recipient as a whole. Listening to the client’s body and its response to treatment leads the practitioner through the session. In order to understand and work with the body’s response to treatment, the practitioner must work in a very clear and meditative state. Shiatsu is administered through clothing without the use of oils or lotions, therefore when receiving shiatsu it is most beneficial to wear comfortable, light, cotton clothing.
